What is Depression
 
Depressive disorder is widely recognized as one of the most pressing mental health problems worldwide. There is no single cause however factors for onset include genetics and family history, stressful life events and trauma, grief, loss, and other medical conditions.. 

Common Symptoms include:
​​- Depressed mood (emptiness, hopelessness, helplessness )

- Loss of interest or pleasure in activities (Anhedonia)

- Appetite and sleep changes ( Insomnia, Hypersomnia )

- Fatigue, lack of energy

- Low self-esteem

- Suicidal thoughts and attempts

- Sexual Dysfunction

- Poor Personal hygiene and self-care

Treatment for depression involves.

Psychotherapy(Talk therapy ): 

      - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),

      - Mindfulness Based Cognitive therapy (MBCT) 

​

Medication Management: 

      - Antidepressants such as SSRI's and SNRI's

      - Mood stabilizers

​

Lifestyle Modifications:

      - Exercise, Yoga, Balanced Dieting, 

      -  Light therapy, and Mindfulness Based Interventions

​

Neuromodulation and Brain Stimulation: 

      - Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
