Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

What is Anxiety

GAD is defined as excessive worry that causes significant distress, disruption, or impairment in one's life. There is no single cause; however, contributing factors include genetic and family history, stress and traumatic life events, thought patterns, brain chemistry, and function. 

Common signs and symptoms include: 

 

      - Constant nervousness, uncontrollable worry

      - Restlessness, irritability, muscle tension
      - Increased heart rate, sweating

      - Fatigue, trouble sleeping

      - Difficulty concentrating

      - Panic attacks

      - Avoiding places or events

Treatment Involves

      - Psychotherapy  

            - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) 

            - Mindfulness Based Interventions

      - Prescription Medications ( anti-anxiety and antidepressants)

      - Lavender/Aroma therapy

      - Lifestyle modifications

            - Exercise 

            - Dietary Modifications and Stress management
